  • Probability and Statistics
  • Introduction to Aerospace engineering and Aviation operation
  • Aircraft Design
  • System engineering

Course Description

This subject covers the vocabulary and technologies of the maintainability analysis and design method, maintenance and logistics practice, the areas of concern for maintenance professionals, some tools used in the planning and control of maintenance, the personnel issues of training and occupational health and safety, the processes of reliability centred maintenance, and the aviation regulatory and safety environment in which maintenance is managed.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

To effectively develop the indicated capabilities within this course, students will need to explore and develop knowledge and skills in the following areas:

1. Aircraft Maintenance basic terminologies
2. Basic reliability theoretical models
3. Maintainability analysis and design theories
4. Failure diagnosis techniques and accidents investigation
5. Maintenance Planning and optimisation
6. Reliability Centred Maintenance
7. Logistic Support analysis
8. Maintenance Resource Management
9. Human factors in Aircraft maintenance practice
10. Accountability and Safety
11. Maintenance Cost Management
12. Maintenance regulation and documentation
13. Advanced Inspection Technology
14. accident investigation
15. Aircraft Maintenance and Reliability Information System and Database

On completion of this course students will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate understanding of the basic reliability theory
    2. Demonstrate understanding of the fault diagnosis and inspection techniques
    3. Demonstrate understanding the regulation and procedure of aircraft maintenance
    4. Demonstrate understanding the maintainability design methods
    5. Demonstrate ability to apply these principles in the maintenance management relevant to typical practical applications.

Overview of Learning Activities

The learning process is reinforced through problem-based learning using real aircraft case studies.
Face to face lecturing together with practical projects and assignments will be the major learning model.

Overview of Learning Resources

The primary source of information for this course is the course notes.  You will also be referred to numerous texts and airworthiness regulations.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment consists of two assignments and a final examination.  A pass must be obtained separately in the examination.
