Task 1: Data Gathering Exercise: Execution of an observational study in a Practice-Based Setting in the RMIT Chiropractic Clinic setting. This could be applied to the assessment requirements of the following courses (Clinical Practicum 3 – file audit; Chiropractic Practice 2, Module 3 – case series; Clinical Practicum 4 – file audit).

Task 2: The Capstone Course – Presentation and dissemination of research findings
The Capstone course is designed to allow the student to evaluate, synthesise reflect on and report the results of the data gathering exercise. The student will work within the learning group to analyse the data that was collected in task 1 and produce a group case report.

Teacher Guided Hours: 60 per semester

Learner Directed Hours: 60 per semester

Overview of Learning Resources

Throughout MC143 Master of Clinical Chiropractic, you will be required to complete a series of specific tasks that are seen as necessary to understanding the scholarly process. In previous courses you will have already undertaken a data gathering exercise in your execution of an observational study in a Practice-Based Setting in the RMIT Chiropractic Clinic. In this capstone course you will evaluate, synthesise, reflect on and report the results of that data gathering exercise. You will work within your designated learning group and produce a group case report which will form the basis of a journal article.

The main learning activity to be utilised for the Research and Scholarship portfolio will be the use of small groups of peers who are supervised by a mentor or facilitator, who is a member of the staff of the RMIT Chiropractic Unit, or an appropriately trained external member. Once the small group is established, the group will communicate weekly or fortnightly, and will function as a support group that can provide feedback and guidance to students. Each student will be required to provide evidence of their participation in the small group.

Overview of Assessment

This course has no hurdle requirements.

Assessment Tasks:

Assessment 1:  Planning Phase (Group)

Participation and completion of an online discussion board focussing on the steps required to convert the results of the data gathering exercise into a group report and subsequent scholarly journal article. This will include contextualising your study within the contemporary chiropractic evidence-base.
