Course Description
This course is designed to improve your understanding of research approaches used in organisations and to enable you to understand the research process. The aim is not to turn you into an expert researcher. Rather it will enable you to critically analyse research literature and research proposals, evaluate the usefulness of research findings to the workplace and understand the ethical issues that can arise when undertaking research in organisations.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
By the time you complete this course you should be able to:
- critically review research reports and other literature found in academic or practitioner journals, other journals and magazines and on the internet
- understand the choices available to researchers during the development of a research plan
- understand the ethical, moral and privacy considerations involved in research
- understand how to evaluate research outcomes to determine their applicability to the workplace
Overview of Learning Activities
The course will consist of a series of classes in which you will take part in activities including exercises, case studies and group discussions. In addition you will undertake independent work involving library research, reading and analysis of articles and a range of written tasks.

A reading list will be made available for each class. In addition pre-reading will be required for some classes. The details of the required textbook (if any) will be provided in the first class.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment tasks will include both written and oral work.
