Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
Course participants are required to be able to demonstrate the ability to comprehend and communicate information in accurate, clear, concise and coherent English. Students are also required to have the ability to analyse a given question and to be independent and self-directed learners.
To best apply and use the arguments about effective Human-Computer Interaction as it pertains to Business Information Systems. Students will need to have an understanding of how human factors are likely to impact in the business sector with a view to initiate ICT tools to enhance business operations.
Course Description
This course provides an appreciation for improving their personal digital awareness using techniques that involve information systems project management and collaborative group formation.
Students will have the opportunity to:
(1) Evaluate state-of-the-art interactive applications
(2) Form collaborative IT work groups - to design and build a small Web-based Business IS using FLASHFORM Rapid e-Learning Studio.
(3) Conduct usability testing of Case Study examples
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
At the conclusion of this course you should be able to:
- explore and evaluate usability of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
- demonstrate your understanding of why effective HCI is important - within a business information system
- understand how to participate in a collaborative IT work-group
- understand how the user-centres systems design (USCD) affects the effectiveness of HCI with Business IS
At the conclusion of this course you should be able to:
- assess the usability of HCI tools
- disseminate a logical and informed presentation on the effectiveness of HCI business solutions
- prepare and write a joint case study report
Overview of Learning Activities
Student experiential learing will involve them in case study evaluation of existing Business IS to determine effectiveness of the HCI.
Students have the opportunity to develop Web-based materials in a series of weekly stepping stone development exercises.

The assessment for this course will involve individual, and group oral and written projects, and a final written exam.
