Course Description
In this course you will develop your abilities to use business analysis tools and models built on a range of technologies to enhance problem understanding, decision quality and innovative design of usable systems. Drawing on case studies, the following concepts will be examined: Types of Business Information Systems, Data and Information Management, Business Analytics and Decision Making, Legal, Ethical, and Security concerns, System Implementation and Digital Transformation, Information System Sustainability considerations.
You will collaborate with your peers to model business problems using Business Performance Management tools - BPM, data visualisation, mobile social network technologies to effectively communicate business decisions and generate business solutions to solve case studies depicting global information systems issues that will adhere to professional and ethical standards.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concepts and business value of Information Systems.
- Explain the role of information systems in managing and sustaining digital transformation.
- Critically analyse enterprise information systems and their role in data-driven decision-making.
- Identify, evaluate, and communicate strategic and operational issues suited to the application of information systems management concepts and theories to real-world practice.
Overview of Learning Activities
The course is delivered interactively in two hours workshop and/or Lectorial twice each week.
The mode of delivery requires that you revise lecture material each week and prepare for workshop activities. Short activities at the commencement of each workshop will provide you with feedback on how your learning is progressing.
The Workshop Resources are divided into 3 components -
- Preparatory Learning Activities (PLA) are completed at home/before class
- Workshop Learning Activities (WLA) are in-class facilitated activities
- Consolidated Learning Activities (CLA) are supplementary resources that reinforce your understanding of the material covered. Sometimes the CLA may incorporate extension activities. CLAs have few instructions especially when they are reinforcing activities already completed.
Overview of Learning Resources
Various learning resources are available online through myRMIT/Blackboard. In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.
