Course Description

This course will help you develop skills to reflect on current textiles clothing and footwear (TCF) trends and practices, both locally and globally. You will learn how to investigate and evaluate processes and products, acquire skills to analyse data, report and document information, and consult with relevant personnel in TCF.

This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.


 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

3.Investigate, analyse and interpret trends on design, materials and trims in fashion and related industry either locally or globally.

4.Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your study to demonstrate personal and professional attributes to be work ready.

6.Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation when identifying and responding to problems in diverse context within the fashion and textiles industry.

7.Work with others in a range of roles and context, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness.

8.Gather, analyse and interpret data to develop fashion and related products and present to peers or potential clients.


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

1. Respond to industry brief to identify attributes of a fashion retail brand
2. Research, analyse and interpret data and present in a report format.
3. Research and interpret fashion and social trends for a specific market.
4. Work collaboratively with peers and industry professionals in a team based environment 


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be provided with a range of learning experiences which include structured lectorials and workshops covering key concepts and theories related to the fashion & textiles industry.

The work integrated learning component will allow you to have an industry experience, adding value to the organisation in which you will be placed and will allow you to solve authentic business problems or address real issues faced in an organisation.


Overview of Learning Resources

A list of recommended learning resources will be provided by your lecturer including books, journal articles and online resources. You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program capabilities.

Assessment of this course will require you to demonstrate your ability to work collaboratively on a project and write a report.  Ongoing feedback will be provided to enable you to monitor your own performance and will include detailed feedback on assessed tasks.
