Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
In this course you will learn to develop fashion designs within specified guidelines and present the concepts to your client(s). This will be achieved through market research which will help you identify opportunities to improve the performance or outcomes of a textile, clothing and footwear (TCF) product and identify opportunities for product development.
This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
2.A broad theoretical and technological knowledge of current business and professional practices leading to marketing and merchandising fashion products both locally and globally.
3.Investigate, analyse and interpret trends on design, materials and trims in fashion and related industry either locally or globally.
4.Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your study to demonstrate personal and professional attributes to be work ready.
6.Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation when identifying and responding to problems in diverse context within the fashion and textiles industry.
7.Work with others in a range of roles and context, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness.
8.Gather, analyse and interpret data to develop fashion and related products and present to peers or potential clients.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- A broad theoretical and technological knowledge with some depth in fashion materials and marketing leading to merchandising fashion products both locally and globally
- Analyse and interpret trends in fashion and textiles either locally or globally
- Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your study
- Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation when identifying and responding to problems in diverse context within the fashion & textiles industry

You will be engaged in a range of industry related and work integrated learning activities.
The work integrated learning component will allow you to have a supervised industry experience, adding value to the organisation in which you will be placed in and will allow you to solve authentic business problems or address real issues faced in an organisation.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
The assessment tasks of this course are linked to a work integrated learning experience and will include collaborative work on a design brief provided by industry partners. A range of assessment activities may include developing a visual diary, story boards, and a written report and you will also present your range of designs, research data and recommendations to industry partners and academic staff. You will recieve feedback on your assessment throughout the course from academic staff and industry partners.
