Course Description

In this course you will participate in an International Study tour to Europe that focuses on object based works including Gold and Silversmithing and Ceramics. You will visit artists’ studios, galleries and museums in Amsterdam and Munich, two epicentres of contemporary jewellery and ceramics. The study tour will provide you with an exciting and flexible learning alternative to traditional classroom based learning.

You will reflect on your tour through a blog, reviewing exhibitions/ galleries and recording related experiences. This will provide you with a way of considering how the tour can help inform your own practice of interest in contemporary fine art.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course will develop graduate attributes such as critical reflection, communication, self-management and research.


Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • analyse and critique contemporary jewellery and ceramics in international context
  • discuss your own work and the work of others in an international context
  • critically reflect on a range of international artists’ studios, gallery exhibitions and museums
  • gather research material for your own practice and reflect on your study tour experiences

Learning in this course will be active and may include: visits to artists’ studios, galleries and museums in Amsterdam and Munich. You will also engage in a range of critical reflection activities.
