Course Description

Osteopathic Practice Portfolio is the capstone course of the program BP279 Bachelor of Health Science/Bachelor of Applied Science (Osteopathy). It is a culmination of all the theoretical and practical elements of osteopathic clinical practice you have studied during the program and will prepare you for your transition to professional practice.

You will be required to apply your skills in simulated real life scenarios demonstrating your competency and readiness for industry practice.

This course offers a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) for BP279 Bachelor of Health Science/Bachelor of Applied Science (Osteopathy), in the following way:

  • PLO 1 Provide patient-centred care as a competent, safe primary healthcare professional
  • PLO 2 Provide osteopathic, musculo-skeletal healthcare within a patient-centred, evidence-based framework
  • PLO 3 Gather and interpret health information, and employ clinical reasoning to develop differential diagnoses, to inform assessment and management
  • PLO 4 Effectively communicate with a wide audience (i.e. patients, carers, healthcare professionals and agencies), with respect and sensitivity to socio-cultural diversity, using a variety of media
  • PLO 5 Manage all aspects of clinical practice to comply with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards in an evolving healthcare industry
  • PLO 6 Work autonomously and collaboratively, to lead and/or contribute to inter-professional healthcare partnerships
  • PLO 7 Develop and implement strategies to meet personal and professional demands, as a primary healthcare provider


Upon successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Assess and reflect on your work readiness;
  2. Develop a strategic plan to map your personal future progression within the profession, identifying what skills you will require for longevity as a primary healthcare practitioner;
  3. Demonstrate the capacity to engage in critical reflective practice to formulate and implement strategies to address the changing nature of clinical practice;
  4. Evaluate disputed clinical encounters to offer managing, preventative, and resolution strategies to overcome conflict;
  5. Demonstrate the capacity to work in teams to lead and contribute to inter-professional care partnerships.


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectorials, tutorials, practicals, laboratories, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.
