Course Description
This course provides a broad introduction to mathematical techniques and data analysis using known data, analysing graphs and diagrams.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course contributes to the following program learning outcomes (PLOs):
- Ability to apply a depth of knowledge in a range of industry practice fundamentals in context that are subject to change, and adapt knowledge and skills in a range of contexts.
- Problem identification, formulation and solution to unpredictable and sometimes complex problems.
- Show initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in aviation practical with communication and analytical skills to interpret and transmit responses to sometimes complex problems.
- Function effectively as an individual and in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, with the capacity to be an effective team member as well as to take on roles of responsibility.
- Taking responsibility and accountability for own learning and work in collaboration with others within broad parameters.

On completion of this course you will be able to:
- Interpret data presented in various formats often found in aviation operational documentation
- Derive performance information from data presented in various formats
- Calculate performance given a range of variables
Overview of Learning Activities
The learning activities included in this course are:
- Attendance at lectures where syllabus material will be presented and explained, and the subject will be illustrated with demonstrations and examples;
- Completion of tutorial questions designed to give further practice in the application of theory and procedures, and to give feedback on your progress and understanding;
- Completion of written assignments consisting of numerical and other problems requiring an integrated understanding of the subject matter; and private study, working through the course as presented in classes and learning materials, and gaining practice at solving conceptual and numerical problems.

You will be able to access course information and learning materials through Canvas and may be provided with copies of additional materials in class. Lists of relevant reference texts, resources in the library will be provided. You will also use computer laboratory equipment and computer software within the School during project and assignment work.
