Course Description
In this course you will explore the creative process using an experimental approach to 3D forms. You will develop a range of creative thinking techniques that encourage an individual journey of challenge and reflection. You will employ a range of media, theories and materials to produce concept prototypes including 3D models. Through your production and reflection you will develop knowledge of spatial relationships, with a strong focus on the sustainability of your designs. Your main focus for this course will be to produce a 3D model of a residential interior project that is innovative and meets client needs.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program outcomes:
- Engage with contemporary trends in the interior decoration & design industry to investigate related emerging manufacturing, materials and technologies
- Apply initiative to work both independently and collaboratively and perform effectively as a member of a creative team with responsibility and accountability for own learning and work.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Creatively and critically design and develop 3D designs and models
- Adapt fundamental principles, concepts and techniques to solve specific design problems for interior solutions
- Experiment with a range of ideas through 3D model making and practical design exercise
Overview of Learning Activities
Learning activities will include supervised project work, independent investigation, peer feedback, reflection, site visits, demonstrations, audio visual presentations, online learning (blogs and wiki), studio work, guest presenter demonstrations.
Overview of Learning Resources
RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems.
Audio visual presentations, library references, architectural and interior design websites, interface & activity via learning and support material, Australian Standards and the Building Code of Australia.
Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment may include a range of activities such as in-class exercises, portfolio, models and individual / group projects.
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the
basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more
substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this course are
graded.
Feedback throughout the course may be written, verbal or a combination of both.
Assessment Task 1 Personal Iconography (20%)
This task relates to the following course learning outcomes:
- Adapt fundamental principles, concepts and techniques to solve specific design problems for interior solutions
Assessment Task 2 Exploring Concept through forms (40%)
This task relates to the following course learning outcomes:
- Creatively and critically design and develop 3D designs and models
- Adapt fundamental principles, concepts and techniques to solve specific design problems for interior solutions
- Experiment with a range of ideas through 3D model making and practical design exercise
Assessment Task 3 Design proposal (40%)
This task relates to the following course learning outcomes:
- Creatively and critically design and develop 3D designs and models
- Adapt fundamental principles, concepts and techniques to solve specific design problems for interior solutions
- Experiment with a range of ideas through 3D model making and practical design exercise
