Course Description

This course integrates your academic and work-based learning. In this course, you will apply design thinking principles and techniques to produce a project proposal that addresses a contemporary business issue or opportunity. You will engage with the creation, development and pitching of a proposal, which will form the foundation for its creative execution in Business Design Project 2.

This course provides you with a capstone experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program.

On successful completion of this course  you will be able to:

  1. Apply design thinking principles and techniques to explore and critically review a contemporary business issue or opportunity
  2. Produce a project proposal to address a business issue or opportunity.
  3. Collaboratively review and assess a project and propose future directions.
  4. Communicate or pitch a project proposal to key stakeholders to gain support for adoption and implementation.

Overview of Learning Activities

Learning activities in this course are focused on the preparation of a project brief and may include the following:

  • Negotiating a work- related issue in consultation with your course coordinator/academic
  • Using online and other sources to obtain information about the issue and to explore different perspectives
  • Preparing a written draft and a final version of the project brief

This project may be undertaken as an individual or in a small group.

In addition to topic notes; assessment details and a study schedule you may also be provided with links to relevant online information; readings; audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.

Depending on the nature of your project brief additional industry-based resources, and/or sources identified by your course coordinator may be available to you.

An important learning resource for this course is a framework for the development of a project brief that addresses a business issue and outlines its implementation. While there are many examples of project briefs, this course requires all students to apply an agreed framework.
