Course Description

In this course you will explore page-to-screen and screen-to-page adaptations of both popular and classic titles.You will examine this kind of textual crossing from the perspective of both literary and film studies. The course will survey a range of writers (novelists, dramatists and screenwriters) and also explore a range of genres and themes that have been the subject of adaptation.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify the issues and challenges that arise when analysing page-to-screen and screen-to-page adaptation.
  • Discuss authorship in relation to textual adaptation.
  • Describe different theoretical frames through which adaptation can be analysed and evaluated.
  • Apply theoretical frameworks to the analysis of adaptation, and to specific instances of page-to-screen and screen-to-page adaptation.

  • Identify, evaluate and critically analyse cultural, historical and theoretical practices which contextualise your professional practice and further study.
