Course Description

Fashion Project Concept will enable you to engage in a series of  self-directed projects that will inform your final creative output in Fashion Project Collection in your second semester.

This course is designed to build upon your previous/capstone experience enabling you to further synthesise and integrate your conceptual knowledge and creative aesthetic using a blended approach to making and technology in the realisation of your creative practice.

 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning capabilities:

 

  • Problem solve effectively in a fashion and textiles enterprise within the area of industry relevant fashion design, technology and product development.
  • Demonstrate analytical decision making techniques in a fashion environment.
  • Apply logical and critical thinking in resolving a range of applied design and technology issues in a fashion context.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Undertake investigations and research relevant to a project proposal.
  2. Analyse and apply project findings to your creative work.
  3. Articulate the project findings to peers and industry stakeholders.
  4. Document your creative output in a professional manner.


Overview of Learning Activities

This course will require you to link theory with practice through research as you begin to conceptualise your ideas in relation to your creative aesthetic and brand development.

You will begin the development of a series of garments or fashion related products that will be documented each week through a reflective design research journal.

You will produce toiles/ samples of your ideas that will allow you to develop an in-depth understanding of the design process in order to create innovative fashion that is commercially viable and technologically relevant.

The course is delivered through a blended learning approach via online activities, lectures, guest speakers and tutorials. Students are able attend studio workshops on campus in support of their online learning.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Task 1: (25%) Foundations of Fit Module.

Task 3:  (25%) Apparel Construction Module.

Task 4:  (25%) Design Methods Module.
