Course Description

This course/module covers the reading and writing skills required to deal with information reports. These reports identify and describe things in the social or physical world.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Identify main topic of report

1.2 Identify topic area

1.3 Identify details which elaborate on topic areas
 

Element:

Write a short information report

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Plan and write an information report of approximately 100 words or more

Some errors may occur but these must not interfere with intended meaning.

2.2 Open with general classification statement followed by facts

2.3 Organise factual information logically into paragraphs

2.4 Construct sentences with more than one clause

2.5 Refer to general categories of people or things

2.6 Use simple reference approximately, eg pronouns, articles

2.7 Construct noun groups, eg good public transport, thick dark brown fur

2.8 Use appropriate verbs, eg present tense, negation

2.9 Use vocabulary appropriate to topic

2.10 Use punctuation to support meaning

2.11 Spell familiar words accurately

2.12 Produce legible text, either typed or handwritten
