Course Description

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to read and interpret plans and specifications relevant to construction operations. It includes the identification of types of plans and drawings and their functions, the recognition of commonly used symbols and abbreviations, the identification of key features and specifications on a site plan, the comprehension of written job specifications and the recognition of document status and amendment detail.

1.1. Main types of plans and drawings used in the construction sector of the industry are identified.
1.2. Key features and functions of each type of drawing are identified.
1.3. Quality requirements of company operations are recognised and adhered to.
1.4. Environmental requirements and controls are identified from job plans, specifications and environmental plan.

2.1. Title panel of project documentation is checked to verify latest amendments to drawing.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards.
Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment activities to their teacher/assessor. Feedback will be provided throughout the course.


Assessment Tasks

Students are required to complete three different types of assessment tasks

1. Assessment 1 - Completion of SWMS for this competency                                                                      ( 10% weighing)

To successfully complete this unit, a student needs to be deemed competent (CA grade) in all both assessment tasks.
