Course Description

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to cut, join and bend sheet metal products for a range of simple plumbing related tasks.

1.1 Sheet metal properties and characteristics are discussed
and related to specific tasks.

preparation and plumbing application.
1.4 Quality assurance requirements are identified and
adhered to in accordance with workplace requirements.

2. Prepare for sheet metal practices

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Fabrication techniques relevant to sheet metal and sheet
metal products are discussed and determined for specific
task.
2.2 Plans and specifications for the task are discussed with
the supervisor to determine the designated sequence.
2.3 Safety (OHS) and environmental requirements associated
with sheet metal practices are assessed and adhered to and
provide a safe workplace environment.

2.4 Quantities for specific job tasks are calculated to support
efficient cutting and avoid waste.

3. Cut and join sheet metal and sheet metal products

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Materials are marked out according to requirements of
job task, plans and specifications.
3.2 Personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected, applied
and maintained for specified tasks.
3.3 Tools and equipment are checked for serviceability and
faults reported to supervisor.
3.4 Sheet metal is cut to required shape and dimension using
appropriate cutting tools.
3.5 Joining methods and compatible materials are selected
and applied to comply with job task and specifications.

4. Bend and fold sheet metal and sheet metal products

Performance Criteria:

4.1 Tools and equipment are selected to make appropriate
bends and folds to comply with job specifications and
plan.
4.2 Bent and folded sheet metal and sheet metal products are
cleaned and prepared for joining.
4.3 Materials are handled in a safe and appropriate manner to
requirements of the job task.

5. Clean up work area

Performance Criteria:

5.1 Work area is cleaned and waste is disposed of or recycled
in accordance with the state or territory legislation and
workplace procedures.
5.2 Tools and equipment are cleaned, checked for
serviceability and stored in accordance with the
workplace procedures.
5.3 Materials and waste are disposed, recycled or stored in
accordance with the state or territory legislation and
workplace procedures.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards.
Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment activities to their teacher/assessor. Feedback will be provided throughout the course.


Assessment Tasks

Students are required to complete three different types of assessment tasks
1. Assessment 1 -Underpinning questions theory 20%
2. Assessment 2 - 3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15 Practical assessment tasks) 80%
To successfully complete this unit, a student needs to be deemed competent (CA grade) in all both assessment tasks.

DNS - Did not submit assessment
