Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to perform individual work and work with others in a telecommunications technology.

Details of Learning Activities
Students will participate in a variety of teaching methods including: lectures, tutorials,practicals, class discussion, oral presentations, group work on projects, audio-visual presentations, and work on assignments and report writing.
The student must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of all elements of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks. The learning activities will include lectures, class room tutorials, practical exercises and work simulated projects.
Work simulation activities focus on technical leadership activities, which include:
- team building,
- identifying a team member’s work task,
- clear and concise dissemination of ideas and information,
- planning and organising activities to meet requested standards.
The student will demonstrate leadership characteristics, such as:
- problem solving,
- keeping records, and
- documenting tasks.

Overview of Assessment
The assessment is conducted in both theoretical and practical aspects of the course according to the performance criteria set in the National Training Package. Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment activities to their teacher/assessor. Feedback will be provided throughout the course. To successfully complete this course you will be required to demonstrate competency in each assessment task detailed under Assessment Tasks:

Assessment Tasks
You are required to complete the following three assessment tasks:
1. Assignment 1 - handed out in week 1, due in Week 8
2. Assignment 2 - handed out in week 1, due in Week 34
3. Oral presentation - handed out in week 1, due in Week 35 or 36 as scheduled

Late Submission:
If you require an Extension of Submittable Work (assignments, reports or project work etc.) for 7 calendar days or less (from the original due date) and have valid reasons, you must complete and lodge an Application for Extension of Submittable Work (7 Calendar Days or less) form and lodge it with the Senior Educator/ Program Manager.
The application must be lodged no later than one working day before the official due date. You will be notified within no more than 2 working days of the date of lodgement as to whether the extension has been granted.
