Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to gather, organise and apply workplace information in the context of an organisation’s work processes and information management systems.

If you are undertaking this course in Melbourne from semester 2, 2012 onwards your teacher will advise you if you require access to a computer for the course. It is recommended that you have access to a mobile computing device to allow greater flexibility in terms of where you can work on campus outside class times.

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievements of each competency in a flexible manner. Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met. In addition to the assessments, formative feedback is provided to the students throughout the duration of the course

This course will be delivered online and will include online activities, discussions, exercises, reading and reflection to develop competency including the underpinning skills and knowledge.
 


Assessment Tasks

Online Activities (20%)
Students will complete a series of online activities and discussions as outlined on the learning hub. These activities will be completed weekly and regular feedback will be provided by the teacher.

Case Studies (30%)
Students will complete 3 online case studies which address all elements of competency. Case study details will be provided to students 2 weeks prior to the due dates as outlined in the Teaching Schedule in this document. Exercises must be completed individually, and submitted electronically by the dates outlined in the Teaching Schedule.

Document Report (50%)
Students will complete and online document report which addresses all element of competency. The report criteria guide will be available on the RMIT Learning Hub in week 10. The report is to be completed individually and submitted electronically by the date outlined in the Teaching Schedule

Other Information

This course will be completed entirely online. Students are encouraged to post any questions to the teacher via the Learning Hub where the teacher response will be available for all students to access. The teacher will also be available during the designated student consultation times if students require individual attention.
