Overview of Assessment
Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievements of each competency in a flexible manner. Assessments will incorporate a variety of methods: class exercises, homework, practical project and tests. Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met. In addition to the assessments, formative feedback is provided to the students throughout the duration of the course
Learning activities will include class-based discussions, exercises, reading and reflection on various activities, as well as through experience in the Practice Firm in order to develop competency including the underpinning skills and knowledge.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1 – Work Diary (20%)
Students will be provided with a business scenario and asked to create a work diary for employees of a company. The work diary will be completed individually, out of class.
Assessment 2 – In class test (30%)
Students will complete a closed book test based on the theory from the prescribed text book. The test will focus on both practical and theory components organising schedules. Practical sections will focus on the student’s practical ability to demonstrate the skills and knowledge as set out in the Evidence Guide. Theoretical sections will include short answer questions based on the theory related to the topic.
Assessment 3 – Portfolio (50%)
Students will complete a portfolio of evidence as directed by their teacher which will support the demonstration of competence in contributing to communicating in the workplace.
Full time students will also be observed by the practice firm supervisor throughout the semester using an observation checklist to determine workplace performance.
Part time students will be required to present a portfolio of evidence as directed by their teacher.
