Assessment Tasks

1. Written assessment comprising multiple choice and short answer questions block 3, day 5 or via appointment as scheduled with program Coordinator

2. Workplace Assessment post block 4 attendance but prior to student’s RMIT end enrolment date.

See assessment matrix below for further details

Assessment Matrix

Please note: Students may apply for Special Consideration as per the information provided in the Student Handbook via the RMIT Hub @ http:/www.rmit.edu.au/students/special consideration if they believe their ability to complete assessment for this Unit by the submission date has been affected by factors beyond their control. Special Consideration must be lodged prior to or within 48 hours of the scheduled assessment time or assessment submission date. Special Consideration is not automatically granted on application.

Student must present Student Identification Card to RMIT Assessor to undertake assessment.

Prerequisite for written assessment as follows:

Attendance and participation to block 2, day 4 class work as scheduled in the student’s RMIT Training Plan or attendance to class work as rescheduled by the Program Coordinator

Submission of fully completed HLTIN302A Learning Guide 2 weeks prior to block 3 attendance. A signed HLTIN302A cover sheet must be submitted with the Learning Guide. Refer to the Student Handbook for RMIT policies and protocol for submission of task.

Clinical work based experience in the management of reprocessing of instruments in health work (dentistry). It is important to be aware that students may be required to seek workbased clinical expereince in the reprocessing of instruments at a facility outside their normal place of employment to support the required development of the underpinning skills and knowledge required to successfully complete Unit HLTIN302A.

Written Assessment: block 3, day 5.

1.5 hour written assessment comprising multiple choice and short answer questions.

A PX result for the written assessment is achieved with a result of 70% or above.

An NYC (Not Yet Competent) result for the written assessment is managed as follows-

A result of between of 60 and 69%- the student will be advised of the result via a written feedback sheet and an will be required to schedule an appointment with the Program Coordinator. Verbal feedback on the areas of underpinning knowledge that require further research and consolidation will be discussed. The student will then schedule an appointment for an oral make-up assessment with the Program Coordinator in order to achieve a PX result as a prerequisite to a workplace assessment.

A result below 60% for the written assessment - the student will be advised via a written feedback sheet to contact the Program Coordinator immediately to schedule an appointment to discuss the result. The Program Coordinator will formulate an ’Action Plan’ for the student including, but not limited to further attendance to class work, completion of another Learning Guide and employer third party evidence of work based clinical experience in instrument reprocessing as per unit HLTIN302A learning Outcomes. This will be followed by the student undertaking a predetermined supplementary written assessment as scheduled by the Program Coordinator.

Please note: Failure to undertake the above mentioned to achieve a PX result for the written assessment may result in a student being ineligible to undertake a workplace assessment within their RMIT enrolment period. This may result in re-enrolment incurring fees.

Prerequisite for workplace assessment: post block 4, but prior to student’s RMIT end enrolment date

Submission of Third Party Evidence of Clinical work based experience in the management of reprocessing of instruments in health work (dentistry) via full sign off of Unit HLTIN302A in the Student’s Workplace Training Record Book.

A PX (pass) result of 70% or above written assessment: block 3, day 5. or a PX achieved via the above mentioned.

Workplace assessment- 3 hours. Unit HLTIN302A is an integrated part of a workplace assessment at the student’s workplace. The assessment at the workplace will be conducted in adherence with Victorian OH&S Legislation and in accordance with the ADA Guidelines for Infection Control Document 2008. Failure to meet these guidelines will result in cancellation or cessation of the workplace assessment appointment and may result in a student being found NYC in Unit HLTIN302A.

To achieve a CA (competency achieved) result for Unit HLTIN302A ALL of the above listed criteria in the assessment this matrix MUST be met by the student in accordance with the Elements/Learning Outcomes for Unit HLTIN302A. See Student Handbook for further reference.

An NYC result for Unit HLTIN302A may result in re-enrolment incurring fees.

Other Information

To complete Unit HLTIN302A a student MUST undertake routine and consistent clinical experience in the area of reprocessing reusable instruments in accordance with the ADA Guidelines for Infection Control document 2008 (see updated 2011 version of this document if published &  available).
