Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a health
setting with clients, staff, visitors, suppliers and others to meet established work requirements.

This unit applies to work in a range of health settings such as:
      specific community
      community, regional or remote service provider
      department of a large institution or organisation
      specialised service or organisation
      private provider

Details of Learning Activities

A combination of learning activities will support student’s learning in this unit, such as

  • Facilitator led classroom based lecture and or workshop using PowerPoint Presentations
  • Demonstration and classroom discussion
  • Facilitator led practical clinical demonstration
  • Group discussions
  • Participation in group activities based on simulated workplace exercises
  • Online learning resources accessed via myRMIT Studies (BlackBoard)
    including online tests or quizzes
  • Written classroom tasks
  • Self managed research to support completion of assessment tasks.
  • Work based learning and experience in the dental practice.


Teaching Schedule

This unit is scheduled for delivery for both Trainee Groups and Non Trainee Groups as per timetable issued Phase 1 day 1 and is also located on BlackBoard.  The classes will be delivered over the 4 Phases of the program and on level 3 or 2 of  Building 154 (within the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne). Notification will be provided via student email if there is a date or location change.

The following schedule is as per timetable issued on Phase 1 day 1and is provided on Blackboard (subject to change at the discretion of RMIT, in this event notification will be provided to your student email).

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will include demonstration of underpinning skills and knowledge, assessment activities may include quizzes, role play, oral presentation, and written work.


Assessment Tasks

1. Role Play Assessment Phase 1 as per timetable
The HLTHIR301C  Role Play is a cases study which is peer and teacher assessed, in the class.  Students are to provide a brief reflection report on their Role Play.

2. Legal and Ethical Online Quiz Phase 1 as per timetable
The HLTHIR301C Legal and Ethical Quiz is an online comprising of multiple choice questions and must be completed in Phase 1.

3. Oral Presentation Phase 3 as per timetable
The HLTHIR301C oral presentation is conducted as a group presentation, The students are provided with a scenario and questions.  Each student is allocated one question to answer and a PowerPoint is created by the student group. The student group presents the PowerPoint to the class.

4. Professional Development Phase 4 as per timetable
The HLTHIR301C Professional Development assessment is a submission of their CV and a application for the Certificate IV in Dental Assisting.
  


Assessment Matrix


To achieve a grade of CA (Competency achieved) for the unit HLTHIR301C/EMPL7049C  Communicate and work effectively in
health, you are required to obtain a pass result (Satisfactory) for all the following theoretical and practical assessments.

1. Role Play Assessment Phase 1 as per timetable

2. Legal and Ethical Online Quiz Phase 1 as per timetable, a final mark of 100% is required for a pass and stuents have three attempts for this online test.
 
3. Oral Presentation Phase 3 as per timetable

4. Professional Development Assignment Phase 4 as per timetable

(The assessment process must be finalised and a result entered by the end of the RMIT for the unit HLTHIR301C/EMPL7049C

Failure to complete any of the above listed tasks/assessments will result in a NYC (Not yet competent) for the unit HLTHIR301C/EMPL7049C
