Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

A combination of learning activities have been designed to help students to achieve learning outcomes of this unit:
- Facilitator led classroom based lecture and or workshop using PowerPoint Presentations

- Participation in group activities based on simulated workplace exercises
- Clinical practice, peer evaluation/feedback session/completion of practical worksheets

Teaching Schedule
This unit is scheduled for delivery as per the timetable issued on Induction Day and is also located on Canvas. The classes will be delivered, on level 3 or 2 of Building 154, RMIT (within the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne).

Overview of Assessment
Before the critical aspects of evidence are considered all prerequisites must be met.
The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:
- undertaken a structured process to reflect on own perspectives on diversity
- recognised and respected the needs of people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds in at least 3 different situations
- selected and used appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication
- recognised situations where misunderstandings may arise from diversity and formed appropriate responses

To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency. Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course, students will need to complete all the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
1. CHCDIV001 Knowledge Online Tests
Students are to complete the online knowledge tests accessed via Canvas.
2. CHCDIC001 Simulate Workplace Assessment 1 at RMIT
This is conducted at RMIT simulated dental teaching areas and student's knowledge and skills will be observed.Detailed information will be provided to students during their class attendance.
Students will attempt the workplace assessments under supervision of the assessor and they will be graded with either a S (Satisfactory) or NYS (Not Yet Satisfactory) according to the assessment guidelines and criteria outlined in the CHCDIV001 Assessment Overview. All assessment criteria must be successfully completed in order to achieve a satisfactory result and students will receive verbal feedback on the day.
3. CHCDIC001 Workplace Assessment 1 and Workplace Assessment 2
This is conducted after Phase 3. Allocated assessor will contact the student and/or Workplace Assessor for discussion and scheduling of the suitable time for this assessment. Student knowledge and skills will be observed in the workplace based on two separate performances completed on the same day. Detailed information will be provided to students during their class attendance.
Students will attempt the workplace assessments under supervision of the assessor and they will be graded with either a S (Satisfactory) or NYS (Not Yet Satisfactory) according to the assessment guidelines and criteria outlined in the CHCDIV001 Assessment Overview. All assessment criteria must be successfully completed in order to achieve a satisfactory result.
Student will receive verbal feedback on both of these assessments at the end of the workplace assessment.
