Course Description

In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to perform spotting techniques on articles received for dry cleaning. It includes identifying a wide range of stains on a variety of fabrics, determining spotting requirements and suitable spotting agents, and carrying out spotting procedures.

3.2 Identify appropriate spotting agent according to stain characteristic and fabric requirements
3.3 Identify spotting requirements for common stains and select appropriate method
3.4 Consider advanced spotting processes and procedures and select appropriate method, where necessary
3.5 Seek information to support skill development when stains or spotting techniques are difficult to identify
3.6 Implement control measures for factors that affect spotting procedures

Performance Criteria:

4.1 Prepare spotting agents and mix according to manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
4.2 Handle fabrics or materials according to fabric requirements
4.3 Operate machine or equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
4.4 Apply spotting technique in accordance with workplace procedures and spotting agent directions
4.5 Dry, hang or store article correctly, label and take to the correct area for dry cleaning
4.6 Record and report non-removable stains and defects according to workplace procedures

Details of Learning Activities

In general your training is contextualised according to the company’s production processes undertaken as a part of the trainees normal work duties.

Your tasks are selected for training and explanation of the task to be undertaken is given by the trainer and the correct procedure discussed. The task is demonstrated by the trainer and underpinning skills and knowledge are developed.

When the trainer is confident you are capable of undertaking the task safely you will then do the task. During this time your work would be monitored by the trainer and questioning and further instruction given.

You will also be given workplace based tasks and activities to complete and practice between visits. Any activities and work performed between visits are reviewed and further training is undertaken accordingly.

6 Consolidation of skills and assessment 2 hrs

You will practice skills and understanding as a part of your workplace duties between sessions. Activities and work performed between visits are reviewed in the following session and further training is undertaken accordingly.

Assessment Tasks

You will be assessed by observation as you demonstrate your ability to follow standard perating procedures, prepare to perform spotting function, determine spotting requirements and carry out spotting procedures. (you can check the performance criteria above for ore details of these skills). You will be questioned for underpinning knowledge.
