PLANNED LEARNING EXPERIENCES-

To provide learners with skills, knowledge and attitudes to become competent to:
• Select sample of textiles
• Perform preliminary testing and analysis
• Perform comprehensive testing and analysis
• Perform routine testing
• Prepare product specifications

Through workshops and practical sessions in the laboratory.

11.02.2008 - Introducing science in textiles. Calculation of percentages, decimal places and significant figures.
Practical: Dimensional stability - Calculating percentage shrinkage/growth

18.02.2008 - Arithmetic mean, average, standard deviation, coefficient of variation and the relationship to textile processes.
Quiz: Unit of mass – fabric gsm or Single thread test 

25.02.2008 - Graphical representation of data. Elasticity and its importance in fibres. Measurement of stress and strain. Frictional forces in textiles.

03.03.2008 - Graphical representation of data. Elasticity and its importance in fibres. Measurement of stress and strain. Frictional forces in textiles (continued).

Students must complete 80% of all the practical work and must pass the Theory Examination in order to complete the course
