PLANNED LEARNING EXPERIENCES-

The student will be given a range of learning experiences including:

• Practical workshops in the development of specific product
• Weekly workshops with support mentoring to ensure all weekly project requirements are met and project outcomes achieved.
• Industry visits (when possible) to companies involved in product development, garment production and retail outlets
• Conduct market research to specific product brief
• Engage in reflective practice through planned group assessment and feedback.

Week 2:  Successful Product Development
Product Development-why is it necessary; who are product developers; what are the essential generic inputs and outcomes for successful product development

Week 3:  Product/Market Segment Selection
Market segmentation for PD and product positioning
Product Development Strategy: Proactive vs. Reactive
Product Lifecycle

Week 4:  Initiation of Product Development and Strategy Selection: Identifying customer needs (practical)
PD process flow
PD process planning
Types of PD projects
Market research-Global and Local; benchmark product selection

Week 5:  Introduction to Market research
Market research: : general Customer expectations (aesthetics, handle, performance, price) and customer needs; products currently available on the market – benchmark sample selection

Assessments will include:

Assessment will be based on a Project report (60%); formal presentations (40%).

• Learners can make a claim for Approved Prior Learning on entry to the course

• Criteria for your results: HD (high distinction – indicative score 80-100%) or DI (distinction – indicative score 70-79%) or CR (credit – indicative score 60-69%) or PA (pass – indicative score 50-59%) or NN (fail – indicative score 0-49%).

• Negotiation to vary assessment methods may be made in special circumstances. This is subject to the discretion of the trainer after consideration of the learner’s request and is done on a needs basis.
