This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to gather, organise and present workplace information using available systems.

Details of Learning Activities

Learning activities will include class-based theory and discussions based on the textbook, industry consultation, presentations, research soucing information from databases, business and industry, internet and online discussion forums and library visits.  The research project will involve primary and secondary research using print and electronic format, teacher/student supervisory meetings and online delivery.

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievements of each competency in a flexible manner. Assessments will incorporate a variety of methods: class exercises, homework, practical project and tests. Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Learning activities will include class-based discussions, exercises, small group work, online activities, reading and reflection on various activities, together with independent and group research, in order to develop competency including the underpinning skills and knowledge.

In addition to the assessments, formative feedback is provided to the students throughout the duration of the course.


Assessment Tasks

Research Project - Due in three stages (75%)
RMIT (Business TAFE Admin Program) has commissioned you to undertake research into the current labour market for administration staff in line with RMIT’s organisational requirements for its programs to enhance work-integrated learning.  The project is split into three stages:
Stage 1: Research - primary and secondary (approximately 1250 words)
Due in Week 9 (20%)

Stage 2: Analysis of research (approximately 2000 words)
Due in Week 15 (20%)

Supervision meetings x 2 (15%)
Due:  dates to be negotiated between teacher/student in Week 1.

Stage 3: Presentation to peers/Presentation to industry representatives (Weeks 15, 16) (20%)

Portfolio - Due Weeks 5, 6, 7,8 and 15 (25%)
Portfolio questions are due in the weeks scheduled and are submitted using the e-journal on the Learning Hub.  questions are based on the Aspire text and the marking criteria guide located at the Learning Hub.
