Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to explore and apply the design process in
a 2-dimensional (2D) way in response to a brief. This is a core unit in design fundamentals and as such underpins many other specialisation units.

Learning Outcomes



Details of Learning Activities

There are a range of learning activities that the student will undertake during the duration of the course/competency. These may include classroom work, critiquing, technique  and materials exploration and development. Presentation and reformatting of some work from manually generated work to digital file via scanning or photography. Resolving and refining a variety of outcomes in response to the brief.

Overview of Assessment

3 x projects

Students will be tutored with a verbal and/or written evaluation of their progress, within class time.
A final assessment of Competency Achieved or Not Yet Competent will be given at the end of the course when students will submit all completed work.
To be deemed competent students must satisfactorily complete all Learning Elements and related Performance Criteria.
Grading will be offered in addition to, and after, competency based assessment.


Assessment Tasks


There are three projects as follows: 2 x projects (30%) and 1 x project (40%). Each project is assessed for competency within the context of the brief. The final course result will also be graded.
