Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to source information on design history and theory and to apply that information to one’s own area of work.

  • Research, resource and gather knowledge and visual references from libraries, web, cinema, magazines, u tube, journals etc
  • Research specifically according to the  constraints and considerations in design briefs and own work
  • Create class knowledge pool. Store information in individual and common knowledge  on line drop box
  • Critically analyze materials/ resources on the history and theory of design and its bearing on current design practice. Essay
  • Present information in an appropriate context
  • Design briefs inspired by historical reference and indicative styles and that reflect on current design trends
  • Attend class workshops on the outcomes of briefs

2 projects

Students will be tutored with a verbal and/or written evaluation of their progress, within class time.
A final assessment of Competency Achieved or Not Yet Competent will be given at the end of the course when students will submit all completed work.
To be deemed competent students must satisfactorily complete all Learning Elements and related Performance Criteria.
Grading will be offered in addition to, and after, competency based assessment.
