Course Description
The unit applies to the identification of the elements and principles of design, and how they impact on the process of producing fashion items. It includes impact of colour on the design process in a production environment.
This unit applies to work in a production environment where design decisions impact on the work and where design concepts must be communicated to other fashion industry professionals with a view to gaining agreement for further development.
This unit requires communication skills in order to interpret and document information relating to design and to express ideas to others. Planning and organising and problem solving skills, with initiative and enterprise are applied in the preparation of design tools to support communication and selling activity. Self management and learning skills are used to gather and apply feedback about design concepts.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge to use design tools such as story boards and inspiration boards to communicate and sell design concepts to other fashion industry professionals.
Details of Learning Activities
The project will enable you to develop an individual design style and direction. To complete this successfully you will need to research the marketplace, identify your customer, define design inspiration, prepare a design folio, source materials, plan, cost and produce a textile range.
You will develop textile designs that fulfil the market research you have undertaken and in doing so undertake the following:

5Sell design concepts
Teaching Schedule
In general the course is taught by the following means:
1 Introduction and overview of course. Basics of skills required and course content 2hrs
2 Use of learning resources and basic skills development 2hrs
3 Complete manuals and/or tasks and assessment 4hrs
4 Supervised skill development to competency 40hrs
5 Consolidation of skills and assessment 2hrs
You will practice skills and understanding as a part of your workplace duties between sessions. Activities and work performed between class times are reviewed in the following session and further training is undertaken accordingly.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment will be in the form of observation of you demonstrating your ability to use design tools such as story boards and inspiration boards to communicate and sell design concepts to other fashion industry professionals. Also by questioning for underpinning knowledge.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment will be in the form of observationand analysis of work performed by yourself and by questioning for underpinning knowledge.
Grading is not used in the workplace.

Special consideration Policy (Late Submission)
All assessment tasks are required to be completed to a satisfactory level. If you are unable to complete any piece of assessment by the due date, you will need to apply for an extension. Special consideration, appeals and discipline :
Penalties for late assessment
Late submission or presentation of assessable work without an approved extension will be penalised as follows:
- Complete work submitted 1 to 7 days late will incur a penalty of 5% per day on your final mark
- Partial or incomplete work submitted 1 to 7 days late will incur a penalty of 5% per day on your final mark for the entire assessable work
- Work submitted after day 7 will be awarded an NN grade and 0% mark
- Weekends and holiday periods are included in the calculation of the late penalty
- Where a due date includes a specific time for submission or presentation, submissions after that time on the due date incur a 5% penalty.
