Course Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge to use a range of electronic design programs and equipment such as software programs and computing technology.

The primary learning mode in this course is face to face. There will be a component online training videos. You will be expected attend all classes and access the online training to achieve the best results .

Learning Objectives
This course is designed to assist you to:
• Develop design concepts using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Produce product illustrations and technical garment drawings
• Produce and digitally manipulate images for mood board presentations
• Produce colour schemes for art work
• Analyse design briefs and accurately produce intricate designs to scale using computer aided design.
• Research and interpret trends in fashion and textiles either locally or globally
• Research and identify client needs for fashion products.
• Communicate effectively with peers and clients to meet the project brief.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

Use the industry standard software Illustrator and Photoshop to create technically accurate fashion illustrations and images used in presentations.

Create technically accurate drawings in a timely manner using time saving techniques.

Create swatches and brushes to augment the technical drawings.

Apply colour swatches to meet design requirements.

Digitally manipulate bitmap images for mood board presentations using filters and Photoshop tools.

Create presentations using appropriate orientation and resolution suitable for printing and screen based output.

The Brunswick campus has computer facilities for you to use, consisting of the computer software and hardware required for this course. Printers and scanners are also available.
The images and computer files required for the course are available on the computer network for you to use. You will have available access to facilities for the storage of your files created during the participation of this course. You will be responsible for maintaining these files in your own folder. RMIT has a computer network that allows you to access these resources if you are not located on campus.

Students will be assessed through a practical quiz worth 100% demonstrating the following:
Students will be required to create a technical correct sketch to industry standards and apply component details.
Students will also be required to use the swatch and brushes tools in Illustrator to represent garment details.
Students will also be required to use Photoshop to manipulate images for mood boards and presentations.
