Course Description

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to organise domestic and overseas business travel, including developing associated itineraries, booking travel and accommodation, preparing travel related documentation and making travel arrangements.

Learning activities for students will include participation in the Simulated Business where you will work as a business administrator.  This assessment is simulated so you can choose your team leader as the person who requires travel arrangements.  Refer to course guide for due dates.  Mostly, the research is Internet based.

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular unit of competency to be deemed competent. Students are advised that they will be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievements of each competency. Assessments will incorporate a variety of methods: direct questioning combined with a review of portfolios of evidence, review of authenticated documents from the training environment and demonstration of techniques.

In addition to the assessments, formative feedback is provided to the students throughout the duration of the course.


Assessment Tasks

Critical aspects

Assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit are; organising business-related travel for others, including scheduling and developing itineraries and travel-related documents and efficiently booking and organising travel within budgets and time constraints to meet traveller and organisation needs.

TASK 1: Domestic Travel Project - Simulated
Students will organise a domestic travel business itinerary for an employee of the SB to attend a sustainability conference in Sydney. Follow the Assessment Record and Cover Sheet in Blackboard. Refer also for any travel policies and procedures by searching the RMIT website.  Due dates indicated in schedule above.

TASK 2:  International Travel Project - Simulated
In a group of THREE, students will create an overseas travel plan that will include preparation of all travel documentation and full budget for the business trip. They will allocate team roles and delegate project tasks equally to successfully present the compiled travel portfolio in business report format.
 

Assessment Tasks 

You are required to complete two tasks. You must successfully complete both tasks to be deemed competent in this unit.

Submission Requirements

You should:
• Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
• Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
• When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. You must complete, sign and submit a cover sheet with all work you submit for assessment, whether individual or group work. On the cover sheet you declare that the work you are presenting for assessment is your own work. An assignment cover sheet for submission of each assessment task is available on blackboard.
• Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers. For example, Julie Macpherson, 324567, Task 2, OHS2345C Ensure safe workplace, Page 1 of 10.
 

Late Submission Procedures
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days. More Information: http://www.rmit.edu.au/students/assessment/extension

Resubmissions
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a Course Assessment Task you will be allowed one resubmission only. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission. The highest grade you will receive if your resubmission is successful is “CAG”.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.

Marking Guide:
• You must demonstrate that you have all the required skills/knowledge/elements in the unit of competency you are studying.
• You will receive feedback on each assessment task that will inform you about your progress and how well you are performing.

After achieving competency we then grade your performance in the unit; this gives you the opportunity to have the level of your performance formally recognised against industry standards and employability skills. The grading is according to the following criteria:


1. LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE, INITIATIVE, ENTERPRISE AND PERFORMANCE OF WORK TASK


Has the learner demonstrated good planning and organising skills to allow sufficient time to prepare business and travel documentation and to schedule trip according to requirements.

2. DEMONSTRATED BREADTH OF UNDERPINNING KNOWLEDGE AND A WILLINGNESS TO CONTINUE LEARNING
Are there literacy skills to read a variety of texts and to write clear and detailed instructions in a logical sequence?Does the learner need more technology skills to access online travel and booking resources. Is this something the learner can undertake in the future? Has the learner demonstrated excellent research skills to locate specific information such as appropriate transport, meeting venues, accommodation, contacts? Was the assessment completed on time with correct name of the business traveller used, travel organised on correct dates and within budget using correct policy and procedure constraints.

3. TECHNIQUES & PROCESSES, TECHNOLOGY SKILLS AND PROBLEM SOLVING


Was the student adept and applying a contingency and risk plan for the traveller. Were checklists and itineraries clearly laid out for the traveller reflecting the student’s understanding of theory? Is the report production of a high standard demonstrating a high capacity for technology use? Are appendices used and labelled clearly for the reader in the business reports?

4. WORK ORGANISATION, PLANNING AND SELF MANAGEMENT

Was the student adept and applying a contingency and risk plan for the traveller. Were checklists and itineraries clearly laid out for the traveller reflecting the student’s understanding of theory? Is the report production of a high standard demonstrating a high capacity for technology use? Are appendices used and labelled clearly for the reader in the business reports?


Did the student evaluate their own performance and identify areas for improvement; manage their time and ensured the comfort of the traveller was met to OHS safe travelling standards. Were they able to plan and review their work effectively, consulting with the teacher in suitable time to get the tasks done on time? When working in the team did the student agree on delegating tasks, align the purpose and structure of documents, spreadsheets and databases? Did they collect timely feedback from the traveller and relevant parties, coordinated and consulted with meeting participants and referred to queries? Did the student communicate with stakeholders to gather information about their needs and provide services in a timely manner and arrange confirmations of travel arrangements with relevant parties? Were they skilled at listening to and following complex oral instructions? Was the quality of proofreading, grammar and editing to a high industry standard with clear writing and detailed instructions for the traveller?
