Overview of Assessment
A series of workbook exercises and folio-based assessment tasks are undertaken. These must demonstrate evidence of the following knowledge and skills about:
• techniques of image capture,
• properties and capabilities of exposure systems,
• styles and types of images required in different industry sectors,
• organisational and legislative occupational health and safety procedures in relation to the use of image capture techniques,
• elements and principles of design and their application,
• work space requirements for image capture including selection and set up of space,
• knowledge on interpreting a brief,
• theoretical and historical contexts for photoimaging and how this may inform own practice,
• environmental issues associated with the equipment and materials used in image capture,
• the work, ideas and techniques of other photographers,
• copyright, moral rights and intellectual property issues and legislation associated with image capture,
• literacy skills sufficient to interpret the brief, instructions and procedures,
• numeracy skills sufficient to interpret technical charts/diagrams and safety labels and procedures
The selection and application of equipment, materials, lighting and image capture techniques consistent with the purpose of a brief together with the correct interpretation of the brief is critical to the judgement of competence in this unit. The assessment context also includes the presence of time constraints that reflect industry practice and standards.
Assessment may incorporate a range of methods including:
• direct observation of the candidate undertaking image capture
• evaluation of images produced
• questioning and discussion of the image capture techniques and their use
• review of folios of evidence
