Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish and manage resources and other requirements for a particular production area. It builds on the skills found in the unit CUETEM01B Coordinate production operations and has links to other production management units, which relate to ’whole of production’ planning and management. A head technician, technical manager or workshop manager would generally undertake this role.

Overview of Assessment
Critical aspects of assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit are:
Effective communication with artistic staff, senior management, peers and subordinates
The ability to develop options for different production requirements and constraints
Extensive knowledge of specialist area, particularly in the area of resource acquisition and management
Assessment Tasks
Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include:
- in-direct observation including a Log sheet and Host Employer Report
- blog entries/discussion
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this unit are graded.
To demonstrate competency in this course you need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
Formative Assessment
1. Complete 4 Blog entries about your Work Integrated Learning (Practical Placement) experience and comment on 4 others
This assessment is designed to share your Practical Placement experience with your peers and develop your skills in managing resources. Your Blog page can be found in the Manage Resources folder in Blackboard and an example of what to write and comment about is listed first.
Due TAFE Week 15 of Semester 2, Friday 1st November 2013
2. Complete Practical Placement arranged by you (at least 20 hours total)
Submit a Practical Placement Folio comprising the completed documentation from the Practical Placement 1 Kit:
•Signed Workplace Learning Agreement (TAFE) handed in PRIOR to starting the Placement
•Completed Log sheet (this provides evidence of what you did, when and how long your placement was) once the Placement is completed
•Completed Employer report (this provides evidence and feedback from your employer in relation to your employability skills during your placement) once the Placement is completed
The Practical Placement 1 Kit can be found in Blackboard in the Manage Resources folder.

Summative Assessment
3. Report on your Practical Placement experience
Complete an 800 word report in your Wiki on at least 20 hours of Practical Placement with photographs explaining where you completed your placement; what the company does; its people; an average day; their OHS practices; their resources – what they own, where they store it, what they hire; and your experience with them.
Aim
To report on the effective communication, OH&S practices and resource management of at least one AV company by observing and/or participating in at least two of their productions.
Brief
Complete the report in your Wiki page (in the Manage Resources folder in Blackboard) on your practical placement experiences and the company/ies.
Presentation Requirements
Complete an 800-word report with photographs* addressing all of the following;
1.The company name, location and its main work activity
2.Links to their website
3.Company achievements/highlights
4.Their equipment/resources – what they own, where they store it and what they hire
5.The roles and responsibilities of at least 2 of the people who work there
6.Your observations of OH&S law’s being followed ie ‘I noticed there was white tape on the edge of stage but they did not use shot bags on light stands’
7.Briefly describe what you did (no more than 400 words)
Photographs* with regards to taking photos during practical placement, be sure to ask first! If they agree, try to get photos of;
•Productions, including during set-up and pack-down
•Warehouse/equipment in storage
•The various workplaces of the company like venues/offices/editing suites etc
•OH&S observations
•You working!
