Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course will involve demonstration of practical tasks and underpinning theory knowledge.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered as essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. summative assessment tasks in this unit are graded

To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments and a grade for the summative assessment. For further information on the assessements and grading criteria, please refer to the course Blackboard site.

Formative Assessment
1.    Open-book practical assessment task (Conducted during class#2)
240 volt power cable testing.
Each student will use both a multimeter and a portable appliance tester to test for electrical safety the 240 volt power cable that was constructed during this course and report on cable status.

Summative Assessment
2.    Open-book practical assessment task (Conducted during class#1)
240 volt connector attachment.
Each student will connect a male & female 240 volt connector to a length of three-core flexible cable. For this task you will be assessed both on your ability to attach the connectors as well as your ability to plan the task (obtain all necessary materials and tools)

The details on these assessments and the grading criteria for this competency can be found on the course blackboard site.
Grades used in this unit are as follows:

CA       Competency Achieved
NYC    Not Yet Competent
DNS    Did Not Submit For Assessment
