Course Description

This course builds on the course:repair and maintain vision systems (EEET, 6841C).

On satisfactory completion of this course you will be able to:
 

  • use a digital multimeter and electronic cable testers to test fuses, leads and power cables.
  • use a digital multimeter to test AV devices such as the audio amplifier and phantom power checker were constructed during the Repair and maintain vision systems course
  • Undertake basic AV equipment fault-finding.

1.    Undertake routine maintenance of equipment

Performance Criteria:

Clean and maintain equipment, cables and accessories according to organisational procedures.
Conduct safety checks on equipment according to manufacturer instructions and OHS guidelines.
Check and replace spares and consumables and ensure production equipment is ready and available to productions at specified locations.
Complete required documentation to ensure accurate records of checked and maintained items, and provide copies to relevant personnel.

2.    Attend to the repair of production equipment

Performance Criteria:

Recognise faults and safely shut down equipment if necessary, following manufacturer instructions and organisational procedures.
Isolate fault to specific equipment or parts of equipment using fault detection procedures, and determine nature of repair requirements.
Tag faulty production equipment according to organisational procedures.
Make minor repairs to faulty equipment according to safety requirements and manufacturer instructions and within level of own responsibility.
Refer complex repairs to technical specialists or licensed personnel in consultation with relevant personnel.
Where appropriate, have technical specialists pilot the repair from a remote location.
Discuss faults and repair needs with technical specialists, demonstrating correct use of terminology.

Performance Criteria:

Undertake simple modifications to equipment, ensuring current safety measures and deadlines are met.
Complete documentation according to organisational procedures and distribute to relevant personnel as required.
Review repair and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with legislation and organisational procedures.

On satisfactory completion of this course you will be able to:

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course will involve demonstration of practical tasks and testing of underpinning theory knowledge.


Assessment Tasks

Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered as essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this unit are graded

To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments and a grade for the summative assessment.

Formative Assessment
1. Open book individual practical assessment task #1 (Conducted during class #1)
For this task you will test two audio leads using a multimeter within a timeframe of 10 minutes.
2. Open book written theory test assessment task #2 (Conducted during class #7)
This assessment task covers:
- OH&S considerations when undertaking equipment repair & maintenance
- Preventative maintenance
- Tools and servicing aids
- Champ amplifier testing & fault-finding
- Phantom power checker circuit
- 240 volt AC power connector installation

Summative Assessment
1. Open book individual practical assessment task #3 (Conducted during class #5)
For this task you will test for functionality your Champ audio amplifier within a timeframe of 10 minutes.
