Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. This unit addresses the management of projects including the development of a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalising the project and reviewing the project to identify lessons learnt for application to future projects. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

Performance Criteria:

1. Take action to ensure project team members are clear about their responsibilities and the project requirements
2. Provide support for project team members, especially with regard to specific needs, to ensure that the quality of the expected outcomes of the project and documented time lines are met
3. Establish and maintain required record keeping systems throughout the project
4. Implement and monitor plans for managing project finances, resources (human, physical and technical) and quality
5. Complete and forward project reports as required to stakeholders
6. Undertake risk management as required to ensure project outcomes are met
7. Achieve project deliverables

1. Develop project plan including timelines, work breakdown structure, role and responsibilities and other details of how the project will be managed in relation to the project parameters

5. Consult team members and take their views into account in planning the project
6. Finalise project plan and gain any necessary approvals to commence project according to documented plan

Overview of Assessment

The participant must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, workplace activities, in class exercises, quizzes, practical problem solving exercises and presentations. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.


Assessment Tasks

A major work based assessment – A report outlining the occupational health and safety processes your workplace uses to identify, assess, control, monitor and review hazards. 70% of total mark

Class participation – 10% of total mark

Online participation 20% of total mark
