Learning Outcomes

In this unit the learner will develop the required knowledge and skills associated with communication to establish design requirements with the client, including taking accurate measurements, and document specifications to guide production. Ongoing learning is required to maintain currency of design options and teamwork is applied to ensure client requirements are identified and achieved in the design. Planning and organising skills are required to determine production requirements in relation to the design. Initiative and enterprise and problem solving will be used to create design concepts and match them with production processes. Self management will be applied to ensure design meets design requirements.

Details of Learning Activities

This course has been divided into two distinct learning areas that cover all the learning outcomes required.
Design Theory covers the development of the knowledge and skills associated with communication to establish design requirements with the client.
The Design Theory component takes the students through the entire creative process including:
- Trend research
- Inspiration and concept development
- Range building
- Mood boards
- Story boards
- Presentation
Computer-aided design is the development of designs in electronic format.
The CAD component provides the students with the necessary technical skills to present their ideas in Photoshop and Adobe illustrator. The course covers a series a series of exercises to provide the students with the experience and knowledge to create professional industry standard Mood and Story boards.
Students will submit their work for the end of year presentation.
