Course Description
In this unit you will develop the required knowledge and skills associated with planning and organising to cut printed materials. You will have the opportunity to cut uniform synthetics and printed leathers using machines, knives and interlocking knives. You will be required to ensure materials conform to requirements and identify any processing problems as well as ensure safe use of technology and conformance of your own work to quality standards.

Details of Learning Activities
Students will participate in an integrated learning system, consisting of theory and practical components. They will also contribute to practical workshops demonstrating their skills and required knowledge for cutting printed materials either by machine or hand, in the production of Footwear.
Teaching Schedule
Practical workshops for Cut printed leather by machine will be conducted in conjunction with other practical based learning. Workshops will including demonstration of techniques and students will be required to demonstrate their practical skills required to cut printed leather by machine or Hand.
Learning will include identifying and using appropriate equipment (including clicking press) or knives. Safe set-up of equipment/machinery & working with a range of materials and components used in footwear manufacture. Work for this unit will be carried out during the development of the following pairs of shoes:
Week 1-9 Development of Court Shoe - 1Pair
Week 5-12 Development of Derby Shoe - 1Pair
Week 10-16 Development of Oxford Shoe - 1Pair

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester on all assessment tasks.
All assessment tasks must be completed before competency can be achieved. Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is encouraged.

Assessment Tasks
Student will submit for assessment sample pieces produced during class in addition to a pair of Derby and a pair of Oxford styled shoes. Shoes to be produced are to be at an industry standard. Included in the production of these shoes, student will demonstrate how they cut materials by machine using safe & efficient methods.
Student will demonstrate and answer relevant questions regarding the knowledge and skills required to cut material by machine to a competent standard.
Assessment One: Week 4: Complete and submit Clicking exercises.
Assessment Two: Week 9: Submission of a pair of Court styled Shoes.
Assessment Three: Week 16: Submission of a pair of Oxford styled Shoes.
