Learning Outcomes
This unit supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required for experimentation and application of colour in interior decoration projects in order to achieve desired effects.
Details of Learning Activities
Learning activities will take place in a studio, workshop or classroom using industry standard tools and resources. You will complete exercises and industry style projects. You will also be required to undertake independent study.
In Class Activities will include:

Overview of Assessment
• Effectively research, analyse and apply colours to provide the client with cost effective options which meet the project brief requirements for a minimum of two projects
• Visually present colour schemes to illustrate how ideas meet overall project requirements
• Effectively apply design elements and principles to researching, analysing and applying colours
• Comply with legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practice and established safe practices and procedures for researching, analysing and applying colours
• Communicate effectively and work safely with others in the work area
Assessment Tasks
Apply colour for interiors is a clustered unit with Assess and recommend lighting
Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include:
EXAMPLES
- Practical tasks, a major project and a short test
- direct observation including exploration of and experimentation with techniques
- written and/or oral questioning and discussion to assess knowledge and understanding
- completion of an art journal and/or portfolio including personal reflection and feedback
- direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence…
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this course are graded.

To demonstrate competency in this course you need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
Task 1: Formative assessment - Visual Diary Colour Exercises
A series of sequencially delivered gouache colour exercises that cover Foundation colour & the more sophisticated approach to colour required by decorators
Task 2: Summative assessment - Residential Project
Application of colour theories experienced through the painted colour exercises to an interior scenario
Linked to Assess and recommend lighting for colour and lighting in living and wet areas
You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time.
The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome.
