Course Description
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to assist young people to identify the challenges and opportunities in their lives and to work towards their goals on an individual or group level

Learning Outcomes
Details of Learning Activities
This unit applies to work undertaken in all youth work roles where the young person is the primary client. Work with young people maybe individual or group with a participatory approach.
Classes for this unit are taken in first semester and then supported with 240 hours work placement undertaken between March and October.
Teaching Schedule
Students will under-take classes for this during the beginning of first semester. During this time they will be expected to complete a variety of class-based tasks (written and oral) as part of their assessment. An assignment will be set to be completed after the timetabled classes have concluded.
It is anticipated that the work placement will help to consolidate the theory learnt in class within a practical arena.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this competency will include work placement in conjunction with class-based actitivities, wrritten and oral assessment tasks.
Assessment Tasks
Students will be asked to complete written and oral tasks within the scheduled classes at the beginning of semester one. A major written assessment piece, based on the work learnt in class will be set and due after this time.
