Course Description

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to work with clients to assist them to identify their career interests and options and to assist them to make decisions to match informed career decisions

1.Initiate exploratory activities with the client

Performance Criteria:

1.1Put in place client interview arrangements to facilitate interactive sessions and to establish rapport with the client
1.2Greet client and establish areas of interest
1.3Clarify the role of the career guidance worker and client expectations of the client of the organisation
1.4Explain rights and responsibilities of client
1.5Clarify client's expectations and needs to ensure their issues and motivations are suited to career guidance situation
1.6Collect and document client information in accordance with organisation procedures
1.7Apply appropriate questioning techniques and reflective listening to identify needs and interests of the client
1.8Use a range of appropriate career exploratory activities to assist clients to focus their career search activities
1.9Apply current knowledge of labour market and career information to conduct client interview
1.10Implement processes to maintain client confidentiality in accordance with organisation policies and procedures

2.Facilitate client identification of career interests and needs

Performance Criteria:

2.1Provide appropriate career exploration activities and career self-assessment instrument/s for self administration by the client, according to the scope of work role and organisation requirements
2.2Modify self-assessment instrument/s if required, to match client needs and cultural variations
2.3Provide appropriate guidance, support and monitoring to ensure self administration of career assessment instruments can proceed
2.4Conduct follow up interviews with the client to confirm outcomes of self-assessment and assist clients to explore options that match to their self assessment outcomes
2.5Assist client to identify areas where they want to take action

3.1Assist client to prioritise areas for further investigation
3.2Provide client with information about how their self assessment relates to job profiles, educational and training pathway requirements and employment opportunities

3.5Identify areas where clients may require referral to specialists agencies or other professionals
3.6Identify the range of support services able to be provided to the client by the organisation and other organisations
3.7Develop and implement an ongoing plan with the client defining any additional support required

Overview of Assessment

Students may demonstrate competency either by RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning), the completion of work place projects or the completion of assessment activities based on the Australian Career Development Studies Level 2 materials.


Assessment Tasks

 Recognition of Prior Learning - students undertaking RPL will need to provide evidence of their competency. Please read the RPL Kit and complete the RPL Ready!  mapping document  as the first stage of the RPL Process. You and your assessor will discuss  your  RPL Ready mapping and suitability for RPL. If you are using RPL as assessment for this competency, you and your assessor  once you have collected your evidence, will  undertake a structured professional conversation about your evidence in order to assess your  competency.

 
Workplace project assessment - students are required to provide a written report add/or presentation of your project showing evidence of your engagement with the elements of the competency, underpinning knowledge and use of appropriate skills.




Students undertaking study in this unit of competency are required to complete tasks that include:
•    the completion of  ACDS learning material activities
•    application of knowledge to their workplace
The application of knowledge to their workplace task is negotiated with the student and might include the development of resources for clients, that application of your  knowledge to meet your  client’s needs and  implementing new initiatives in the workplace or your practice, completion of case studies and online research
