Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to oversee the bump in/bump out process for one or more technical aspects of a production. Head technicians or floor management personnel would generally undertake this role.

1.1 Correctly interpret production documentation to determine the scope and type of physical elements required
1.2 Complete accurate inventory checks to ensure required physical elements are available and ready for use
1.3 Identify the need for additional equipment or materials and order or organise these in accordance with organisational procedures and relevant budgetary guidelines

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Liaise with other production personnel to determine the most effective sequential order for the movement and installation of physical elements
2.2 Identify relevant transport requirements
2.3 Organise transport or communicate needs to appropriate personnel as required in accordance with organisational procedures
2.4 Make realistic estimates of the numbers of people required for the movement of equipment and provide information to relevant colleagues
2.5 Clearly and accurately document plans for movement and installation of equipment in accordance with organisational procedures

3 Oversee the movement of physical elements

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Provide clear instructions to appropriate personnel regarding the movement of physical elements to ensure safety and avoid damage to equipment
3.2 Monitor the bump in/bump out process to ensure that work is carried out in accordance with instructions
3.3 Organise appropriate storage and security of physical elements where required, including valuable items and any hazardous materials

Assessment Tasks

Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this unit are graded.

To demonstrate competency in this course you need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
You must submit all pieces of assessment in order for your competency to be assessed in this course.


Formative Assessment
•Participate in Photo Story production as Floor Manager, Technical Director, Lighting director & Audio director. Set up and pack up of sets, camera, audio and lighting gear in studio according to studio protocols. In week 6,7 & 8 Sem I
•Show your Work Safely AAA pass (JSA or Safe Work methods Statement). Due week 9 Sem I
•Participate in ‘Newsline’ production as Floor Manager, Lighting Director, Audio Op or Technical Director and Lighting/Staging/audio Crew Member . In weeks 13, 14 & 15 Sem I
•Show your personal original Floor plan/ Lighting Plan for a Roy Melba segment, showing positions of Cast, Cameras and lighting. Due week 2 Sem II
 


Summative Assessment
•Participate in ‘Roy Melba’s In Tuition’ productions as Floor Manager, Lighting Director, Audio Op or TD and Lighting/Staging/audio Crew Member. In weeks 6-15 Sem II
