Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to follow OHS policies and procedures in the entertainment and media industries.

Includes: Lecture on Work Safe Victoria, OHS/WHS legislation, following safe work practices, maintaining personal saftey standards and how to find resources for assessing risks in the film, Television and entertainment industries. Why a studio might be considered a building site. |

Focus: Workplace procedures and legalities (OHS reps, Work Cover, Incident reports). Includes a discussion on OHS workplace inductions and the licences required by workers in our industry. Manual-handling techniques, working with power/cables, noise exposure, working at height, working for long periods and the legalities/awards/enterprise agreements around these working conditions. Folllowing emergency procedures. |

Overview of Assessment
Critical aspects of assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit are:
Comply with OHS regulations and federal, state or territory legislation requirements for workplace operations, including duty of care
Comply with OHS communication processes, information and documentation procedures
Demonstrate an understanding of the role of OHS committees and representatives, the meaning of common safety signs and symbols, and procedures for reporting hazards, incidents and injuries
Communicate and work safely with others
Follow general procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies, including evacuation, first aid, fire safety equipment and PPE
Explain the consequences of non-compliance with OHS policies and procedures.
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive feedback on all assessment and where indicated, you will receive a grade. Graded assessment tasks are equally weighted and will determine your final result for this course.
Assessment
1. Demonstrate an understanding of following safe work practices and maintaining personal safety standards by producing a personal generic Safe work Methods Statement at the production of ’Photo storyboard’ productions in weeks 3, 4 and 5 of this course (VET weeks 6,7 & 8) and following its guidelines in a variety of job roles.
2. Demonstrate your application of OHS knowledge and skills in ’Newsline’ project in the roles of FM, LD, TD and AD. To be assessed in weeks 6,7 & 8 (VET weeks 13, 14, & 15 of Semester 1.)

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency. Non-attendance may seriously jeopardise the chances of success in a course. Clearly, non-attendance at an assessment will result in failure of that assessment.
