Course Description
In this course you will be required to source, apply and update a general knowledge of the photo imaging industry, including industry structure and operation, employment obligations and you will also be required to consider the impact of new technology.
This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry is integral to your experience.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment in this course will be practical and presentation will be in written and oral form.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for on-going feedback and can be considered as essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks.
To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments and a grade for the summative assessments.
Formative Assessment
1. End of Year Exhibition 2015 Planning meetings/ workshop x 4 + Report
In small groups, form a working committee and develop a proposed plan for the 2015 end of year exhibition.
Write a report (200-500 words) that details the following:
Part A: Your individual contribution: Detail your individual contribution to the planning for the 2015 end of year exhibition.
Part B: The group contribution. In your committee group/with your group members, write one statement as a collective detailing the group plans and/or achievements across the semester.
Report Due Week 11 in class
Summative 01: Individual Networking Plan
Investigate the area(s) of the photographic industry are you interested in pursuing and how will you establish effective contacts in this area. Your research outcomes and plan will be presented as a written report and an in class oral presentation.

Other Information
Communication
Email and Blackboard will be used outside of class hours for all communication regarding the course. Students need to check their emails and Blackboard at least once every day. Appointments with the teachers need to be organised via email.
Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.

It is a requirement of this program that all students participate in authentic work related tasks. These may be either simulated or in a real work environment. On occasion, we are approached by industry and given opportunities for students to apply for short term placements. When these placement opportunities arise, students are required to negotiate the specific details with the relevant program coordinator or teacher. All industry placements require students, RMIT staff and host organisations to sign a written agreement prior to the commencement of the placement.
