Course Description

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to implement community development strategies to meet their community needs.

Details of Learning Activities

You will attend an all-day workshop in which you will participate in activities including discussions and presentations related to engaging communities in the community development process as part of specific initiatives. Self-directed study activities to be completed outside of the workshop include working with groups to establish cooperative processes to support skills development in terms of cooperating on community initiatives. You will be required to reflect on your practice through regularly participation in review mechanisms as a commitment to upgrading skills and knowledge.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include:

- Community Development Case Study
- Evaluation Report


Assessment Tasks

In order to demonstrate competence in this course you will need to satisfactorily complete the following assessment tasks:

Community Development Case Study
The community development case study will detail how you are able to support individuals and groups to identify their individual and shared issues. It will include how you collaborate to identify a cooperative working process and implement community development projects. Your case study will also include describing how you will support the group to develop the skills and processes they need to undertake and complete the project. In order to satisfy the requirements of this course your case study must demonstrate how you are able to work with individuals and groups to identify issues, work with and support groups to establish cooperative processes and skills and reflect on your own practice.

Evaluation Report
You will complete a report evaluating how effectively you are able to work with individuals and groups to identify issues and to develop a collaborative working process. This will include examining how you were able to support groups to establish cooperative processes and data skills development within a community development context. You will complete this by reflecting on how you were able to identify your strengths and areas for improvement as part of your ability to support groups to develop a collaborative community development process.
