Course Description

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to maintain financial records for a business. It includes maintaining daily financial records such as reconciling debtors’ and creditors’ systems, preparing and maintaining a general ledger, and preparing a trial balance. It also includes activities associated with monitoring cash control for accounting purposes.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

This unit applies to individuals who are skilled operators and apply a broad range of competencies in various work contexts. They may exercise discretion and judgement using appropriate theoretical knowledge of financial records to provide technical advice and support to a team.

Details of Learning Activities

Students attend tutorials at RMIT, access myRMIT Studies and gain experience at the front desk of a dental practice in order to complete the BSBFIA301A Workbook, complete the written assessment and  prepare for the multiple choice/short answer written test.
The classes are a combination of PPT, class discussion and class activities.

Teaching Schedule

First Class, as per Certificate IV Timetable:  9 am to 1pm.  This class is a combination of PPT, class discussion and class activities.

Second Class, as per Certificate IV Timetable: 09:00 am. to 1 pm. This class is a combination of PPT, class discussion and a completion of an open book task on the General Ledger.  This task is collected at the end of the class and marked.

Thrid Class, as per Certificate IV Timetable: 9:00 am. to 11 am. This class is the written test.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will include demonstration of underpinning knowledge, and skills; assessment activities may include written tests, written work and third party report.
 


Assessment Tasks

The assessment comprises of a written assessment, written test and third party evidence.

Students are strongly encouraged to use a variety of texts and websites to support their underpinning skills and knowledge for a successful outcome in this unit of competency, including myRMIT Studies (BlackBoard).

Attendance and participation to all classes as scheduled in the student’s RMIT Certificate IV in Dental Assisting (Practice Administration) Timetable.
 

This unit of competency is delivered against current industry standards. Students are required to support learning outcomes for the unit BSBFIA301A with work based experience and further self-managed research to support positive outcome is this unit. A student may feel it necessary to seek further  experience from dental practices outside their place of employment in order to achieve the required Learning Outcomes for Unit BSBFIA301A.
 

The Learner Guide is available to all students enrolled in this unit of competency for access via myRMIT Studies (BlackBoard). Students are strongly encouraged to complete that Learner Guide in detail as it will support the development of skills and knowledge in this unit and will assist the student with the associated written and workplace tasks. The Learner Guide is aligned directly with the desired learning outcomes of this unit of competency and as such will provide students with study direction.

Failure to complete any or all of the compulsory tasks listed above will prevent the student from achieving a CA (competency achieved) result for unit BSBFIA301A. This will result in the non-completion of the unit requiring re-enrolment incurring fees, return to class work and completion of any relevant assessments at the time of the re-enrolment. This may result in non-completion of the Certificate IV in Dental Assisting Program.
