Overview of Assessment
Assessment will include demonstration of underpinning knowledge, and skills; assessment activities may include oral presentation, written work, written tests, practical tasks and patient logbook.
Assessment Tasks
To achieve a grade of CA (Competency achieved) for the unit HLTDA407D Implement an individualised oral hygiene program, you are required to obtain a pass result for all the following theoretical and practical assessments that are used to measure elements, performance criteria, essential knowledge and essential skills as outlined in the
health training package.
Students are required to support the learning outcomes for Unit HLTDA407D with work based experience and further self-managed research to support positive outcomes in this Unit.
You will attempt the OSCE and the written exam will be conducted under the supervision at RMIT under exam conditions and you will be graded with either a S (Satisfactory) or NYS (Not Yet Satisfactory) according to the assessment guidelines.
Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
This form of assessment assesses competency, based on objective cognitive knowledge of clinical skills tested in written form (essay writing and objective examination). It is a timed (2 hour) assessment and consists of several ‘work stations’ in which students rotate and interact in a series of simulated scenario and tasks which are expected to be performed in clinical setting. The OSCE evaluates broader areas crucial to a health care professional such as the ability to problem-solve, interpret/obtain information, communication, patient education and management abilities. A pass markof 60% is required for this test.
Written Exam.
This is a traditional timed (2 hour) written assessment, consisting of true and false, essays and multiple choice answers. This will be conducted during Phase 5 / Week 1: Day 2 · Clinical Experience Record Book. Students are to complete a series of 5 patient examinations. Each patient is seen over two (2) visits and is authenticated by a third party (Supervisor). A pass mark of 60% is required for this test.
Clinical Experience (LogBook) Students are to conduct an oral hygiene examination and provide oral care instructions to a selected range of 5 patients in their clinical setting. Students will be under the guidance of their qualified supervisor and provide third party evidence in the ‘clinical experience log-book’
Oral Presentation.
The student will present information/findings on one (1) patient case selected from the 5 patients examined during clinical experience.
