This course is delivered and assessed in conjunction with GRAP5336 Integrate colour theory.
Course Description
In this course you will research and apply techniques for illustrative work. This will include developing drawing skills and the technical skills required to develop them into themed illustrations. The illustrations would be developed in the context of a commercial application.

Details of Learning Activities
Learning activities will take place in a studio and on own computer . You will complete exercises and industry style projects. You will also be required to undertake independent study.
In class activities will include:

• class exercises to review discussions/lectures
• ‘workshopping’ of student projects
Out of class activities will include:

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include practical tasks and projects.
The assessment tasks are:
Project 1 45%
Project 2 45%
Project 3 10%

Assessment Tasks
Certificate 4 in design (full year) students will complete the following assessment tasks:
Formative Task 1: Experimental media lyrical typography using illustrative techniques(Class work and review) Due Week 3
Formative Task 2: Experimental collage Mixed Media(Class work with review) Due Week 6
Summative Project 1: Preparation and illustrative techniques applied to a self portrait as a major character in a play or film. Illustrations to be used collaboratively in Introduction to Graphic Design unit. Due Week 10
Summative Project 2: Illustrative techniques using scraper boards applied to promotional material for a Zoo or Animal Sanctuary. Due Week 15
Certificate IV in Design Accelerated July commencement will complete the following assessment tasks:
1. 8 Studio Drawing tasks using a range of materials and techniques that may communicate a concept or idea
Review week 6 and assessment due week 9 (Drawing)
2. Formative Task 1: Experimental media lyrical typography using illustrative techniques(Class work and review) Due Week 12 (Illustration)
3. Summative Project 1: Preparation and illustrative techniques applied to a self portrait as a major character in a play or film. Illustrations to be used collaboratively in Introduction to Graphic Design unit. Due week 17
4. Summative Project 2: Illustrative techniques using scraper boards applied to promotional material for a Zoo or Animal Sanctuary. Due week 20
You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time. The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome. At the completion of the course, grading will be offered in addition to, and after, competency based assessment.
