1 Prepare for Shoots

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Participate in pre-production briefings for production and post-production requirements
1.2 Arrange for the necessary equipment and accessories for the shoot
1.3 Safely charge batteries
1.4 Select appropriate capture media for the production and ensure there is enough supply for the production
1.5 Prepare and pack lighting equipment, including gels and cables
1.6 Report significant and minor faults to the appropriate personnel
1.7 Confirm location, shooting schedules and timelines with personnel
1.8 Complete appropriate documentation prior to shoots

2 Set up on Location

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Determine camera positions and appropriate composition for shots
2.2 Liaise with talent and personnel and collaborate with key crew
2.3 Set up equipment and accessories safely
2.4 Consider requirements for re-positioning equipment
2.5 Ensure cameras and equipment is safely secured
2.6 Label and load capture media and check camera functions
2.7 Position microphones as required and conduct audio check

3 Set up Lighting

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Assess the quality of light and determine the amount required
3.2 Mount and position lighting equipment safely
3.3 Run lighting cables and connect safely to power sources
3.4 Install gels or diffusion if required
3.5 Select lenses and filters appropriate for the job
3.6 Check and get appropriate camera movements in line with the project requirements
3.7 Shoot and record material, keeping focus throughout

Performance Criteria:

4.1 Participate in meetings and rehearsals
4.2 Communicate with relevant personnel and provide appropriate cues and instructions
4.3 Move cameras and cables without impeding the crew

5.1 Check and pack equipment safely
5.2 Ensure recorded material is labelled properly with relevant documentation
5.3 Report any faults and leave location in its original state
5.4 Review and Reflect upon performance and what can be improved
